The 2017 Global Trends in Giving report has revealed the power of online giving for not-for-profit organisations in Australia and around the world. The report found that social media is a particularly powerful platform for inspiring giving, with Facebook the most powerful social platform for online donations both in Australia and around the world.

Women accounted for 73% of donors worldwide, with online giving their preferred donation platform.

Interestingly, the study found that 62% of Australian donors had themselves volunteered with an NGO or NFP within the last 12 months.

The report is based upon the survey results of 4,084 donors worldwide and summarises donor data across six continents about how online and mobile technology affects giving.

The 2017 Global Trends in Giving Report is unique in that it is the only annual research project dedicated to studying the giving habits of donors worldwide and is a sister report to the Global NGO Technology Report. The data from both reports is meant to help non-governmental organizations (NGOs), non-profit organizations (NPOs), and charities worldwide better understand if they are using technology in the ways that their donors prefer them to and where they need to improve.
