Middle Eastern teen in classroom

Youth Off The Streets is co-designing a new service with young people from an asylum seeker or refugee background in the Greater Western Sydney area. The project, which is a partnership with Western Sydney University with the support of The Australian Centre for Social Innovation, is seeking young people from a refugee or asylum seeker background to join the team.

The new service will be designed by young people for young people. No experience is required, just a positive attitude and the desire to make a difference. This will be an opportunity for young people to do more than have their say; they will lead the way.

What's in it for young people?

Those who join the team to co-design the service will receive a range of benefits that include, but are not limited to:

  • $50 voucher each week that they participate
  • Valuable training with Youth Off The Streets, Western Sydney University and TACSI
  • Learn new skills that can be transferred to a variety of contexts
  • Reference letter from Youth Off The Streets that will be great for their resume
  • A certificate of participation
  • No out of pocket travel expenses

Who can participate?

Youth Off the Streets are looking to design a new innovative service that will suit the needs of young people in the area and to do that they need first-hand lived experience from the co-design team. They are looking for young people that are confident, socially conscious and able to participate in a weekly, team environment.

To be eligible to participate, young people need to meet the following criteria:

  • Between 12–30 years old
  • From refugee or asylum-seeking background
  • In greater western Sydney
  • Available for the first session on 29 January 2018

If you know a young person who would be interested in creating a service and making a difference to the lives of others, then please refer them to Sarah Dodds at Youth Off The Streets.
