Are you an empathetic person with some spare time each week to provide companionship and enhance the lives of others? Supportive care volunteers support people living with a life limiting condition to live as fully and richly as possible. They aim to enhance the quality of life for patients, families and carers.

Volunteers engage in activities such as conversation, hand massages, playing cards, board games, reading aloud, listening to music, and writing cards/letters to loved ones. Volunteers complement and enhance the care provided by the supportive care team.

Visits will be for 3 hours in the morning, weekly. Opportunities are available Monday to Friday in Westmead and Blacktown. 

Volunteers must be available for 4 days of training, 9.00am–3.00pm, to start late February 2018.

Other requirements:

  • Mature and able to do tasks independently
  • Over 18 years old
  • Comfortable working in hospital environment and with people who are very unwell
  • Enjoys listening to people’s stories, and be able to show compassion and empathy
  • Happy to work independently
