Man holding film clapper

Are you a culturally diverse filmmaker or screen producer who lives, works or studies in Parramatta LGA? If so, you are invited to create a short film exploring themes of cultural diversity in the arts and creative industries.

Diversity Arts Australia (DARTS) has received a modest grant from the City of Parramatta to commission two Parramatta-based culturally and linguistically diverse filmmakers /screen producers to create short films that respond to a series of provocations around cultural diversity, access and inclusion within the arts sector.

The films will be launched in ICE, and screened in Parramatta LGA and other forums next year.

Filmmakers and screen producers who live, work or study in Parramatta are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to create 3–5 minute films exploring themes of inclusion, exclusion and cultural diversity in the arts and screen sectors in your area, region or across Australia. These provocations will be drawn from issues identified in the Western Sydney Gathering event and report.

DARTS has held a “Gatherings” in every State and Territory as a tool for discourse about barriers to inclusion in the arts for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) artists and to identify best practice and practical strategies for change. The final Gathering was held in Western Sydney in June 2017.

The films will be launched at Information & Cultural Exchange (ICE), Parramatta in 2018. The films will also be distributed online and screened throughout the Parramatta LGA.

All content must be able to be screened to general audiences. Your short films may like to explore stories about your experiences as an artist/filmmaker or creative person around issues of inclusion or exclusion in the creative sector or to explore stereotypes or hurdles you or others have had to overcome. DARTS is looking for films that create new insights, stimulate discussion and generate ideas.

You can choose to tell the story in any genre: comedy, drama, documentary, mockumentary, experimental, etc.

Deadline for applications: 10 January 2018

Successful applicants will be notified in the week of 20 February 2018.

Films must be completed by 15 April 2018.
