The Metro Assist Brighter Futures program currently has capacity to take on referrals for families living in the Bankstown and Fairfield LGAs. Metro Assist Brighter Futures delivers targeted services and support to families with children aged under 9 years or who are expecting a child, where a child/ children are at high risk of entering or escalating within the statutory child protection system, including Out-of-Home Care (OOHC).

Brighter Futures is a voluntary program and families must consent to participate in the Brighter Futures Program. The Brighter Futures program offers long term case management support from 12–15 months.

Family eligibility for service

The family must have at least one child under nine years of age living at home, OR be expecting a child who will be at high risk of entering the statutory child protection system, AND the parent/primary carer’s capacity to parent and/or the child’s safety and wellbeing might be adversely impacted by one or more vulnerability:

  • domestic and family violence
  • drug or alcohol misuse
  • parental mental health issues
  • parent with significant learning difficulty or intellectual disability
  • lack of parenting skills or inadequate child supervision
