A range of services are available at Wattle Place and the Forced Adoption Support Service through Relationships Australia. The service can offer a specialised response to the complex trauma needs of people who have been in care. 

For Aboriginal service users, Aboriginal staff are available and a wide range of services are on offer, including services for those who do not fit the criteria of Stolen Generations or are only learning about their Aboriginality much later in life.

Services provided:

Forgotten Australian Support Service for people who were in care institutions in NSW between 1910 and 1990. This is a state-funded program. The service users in this group can reside anywhere; the only criteria is that the service user was in care in NSW. This service offers a variety of supports including but not limited to:

  • Record Searching
  • Family Tracing
  • Supported file release
  • Casework
  • Counselling (options of face to face, telephone, Skype, or brokering to a local provider as required)
  • Groupwork program including social connections
  • Brokerage (limited amount with strict criterion)
  • Drop In

Aftercare Resource Centre Support Service is for people who have been in the care of the Minister in NSW who are 26 and older. This is a state-funded program. Service users can reside anywhere; the only criteria is that the service user was in care in NSW. This service offers a variety of supports including but not limited to:

  • Record Searching
  • Family Tracing
  • Supported file release
  • Casework
  • Counselling (options of face to face, telephone, Skype, or brokering to a local provider as required)
  • Groupwork program including social connections
  • Brokerage (limited amount with strict criterion)
  • Drop In

Find and Connect is for people who were in care institutions anywhere in Australia and currently reside in NSW. This is a federally funded program. This service has a no wrong door approach and therefore people in other states can access this service; it is however often most beneficial for the service user to have a support service nearby. Every state and territory has a Find and Connect Service. This service offers a variety of supports including but not limited to:

  • Record Searching
  • Family Tracing
  • Supported file release
  • Casework
  • Counselling (options of face to face, telephone, Skype, or brokering to a local provider as required)
  • Groupwork program including social connections

Forced Adoption Support Service is for people who have been impacted by past forced adoption practices in Australia and who currently reside in NSW. This is a federally funded program. This service has a no wrong door approach and therefore people in other states can access this service; it is however often most beneficial for the service user to have a support service nearby. Every state and territory has a Forced Adoption Service. Service Users can be the mother, father or adoptee. This service offers a variety of supports including but not limited to:

  • Record Searching
  • Family Tracing
  • Supported file release
  • Casework

Royal Commission Community-Based Support Service is for people who are impacted by the Royal Commission into Institutional responses to sexual abuse. This is a federally funded program. Wattle Place provides this service across a defined area in NSW and often this service crosses over with our Forgotten Australian services. This service has a no wrong door approach and therefore people in other states can access this service; it is however often most beneficial for the service user to have a support service nearby. This service offers a variety of supports including but not limited to:

  • Record Searching
  • Family Tracing
  • Supported file release
  • Casework
  • Counselling (options of face-to-face, telephone, Skype, or brokering to a local provider as required)
  • Brokerage to attend RC hearings and mediations
