An online tool and factsheet can help to provide guidance of what costs should be expected when moving into an aged care home.

There are various costs to consider when budgeting for a move into an aged care facility. Some of these costs can be mitigated through the government based on eligibility.

Some of these costs can include:

  • Basic daily fee - This fee covers day-to-day living costs, and may not be subsidised
  • Means tested care fee - This fee can be charged if your assets are over a certain threshold. This can mean that you will be asked to contribute to the cost of your care.
  • Accomodation costs - Some people will have this fee totally subsidised, while others will need to negotiate a price with the aged care home.
  • Extras and additional services - Service providers may charge extra if you choose a higher standard of accomodation or request extra services.
