Woodville Alliance
GeekAbility Open Day
7 June 2018, 10.30am-12.00pm
Ground Floor, 44–46 Mandarin St, Fairfield East

Woodville Alliance's GeekAbility provides young people 14-25 years old who have an NDIS Plan with the opportunity to engage in work experience while undertaking an accredited TAFE course delivered by aTAFE teacher at Woodville Alliance's premises. GeekAbility is a social enterprise managing private contracts enabling participants to develop skills in a real workplace environment.

Every student will have an Individual Plan developed for them to set skills and life goals that the program will work to achieve with them. Plans will be reviewed on a regular basis to take into account new skills learnt and changing needs as each student progresses through their program. Experienced trainers will work with every student on a one-on-one basis every week to facilitate intensive learning in areas of greatest need or potential.

In addition to digital literacy skills, GeekAbility will also offer students the opportunity to learn business administration skills, employability skills, social skills and independent living skills to prepare them for accredited training options.

The program is funded under the NDIS’s School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) and Finding and Keeping a Job. To be eligible for SLES, students must meet the following criteria:

  • A school leaver who has completed Year 12
  • Be eligible for the NDIS
  • Identified as suitable for SLES through a functional work assessment administered in Year 12 at school
  • Want to participate in a program that will support his or her future study or work goals
