This week the Government announced more level 3 and 4 home care packages. These should somewhat reduce the 126000 long queue for packages at recipients' approved levels.

There are more older Australians without a home care package to their approved level than those who have one. Interim packages and the Commonwealth Home Support Program are filling the gap - at lower levels of service. According to the most recent quarterly Home Care report there were more receiving care below their approved level of support than the 91000 getting their assessed level.

The new packages may be assigned to new people who are entering home care for the first time, or as an upgrade to people who are already receiving home care at a lower level.

Packages will be released progressively through to 30 June 2019.
