Local Community Services Association (LCSA)
Connecting Communities Conference
3-5 September 2018
Waterview in Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park

Representatives from community services organisations, local government and community partners will come together at Sydney Olympic Park on 3 & 4 September to look at pressing social issues experienced in NSW and particularly in Greater Western Sydney.

The Conference, hosted by Local Community Services Association (LCSA) and attended by delegates from all over New South Wales, will also explore some of the ways these issues have been tackled as well as looking at future policy and strategic solutions.

“This year’s theme, Local Community Matters, addresses the ongoing challenges that local community organisations, both government and non-government, face and provides strategies for them to assist and support vulnerable families, children, young people and their communities”, explains Can Yasmut, Executive Officer, LCSA.

“Sustainable resilience in a community can only be developed over time and at the neighbourhood level because this is where people experience their lives. As they say, ‘it take a village to raise a child’ but we’ll be asking is it a ‘healthy, resilient village’ and does that community have strong bonds of trust, interconnected services, depth of leadership and capacity to ensure that families can build on their strengths and capabilities” continues Mr Yasmut. “We look forward to another informative and energizing discussion and event”.

The conference will host a range of speakers including Mr Paul O’Reilly - Executive Director, Commissioning, FACS. Mr O’Reilly will feature as keynote speaker, presenting ‘Commissioning for better outcomes for families in NSW’.

Mr O’Reilly will join other speakers including Dr Cassandra Goldie, CEO ACOSS, Violet Roumeliotis, CEO, Settlement Services International and Dr Westoby, Associate Professor of Social Science and Community Development.

In addition, a series of masterclasses, to be held on Wednesday 5 September, will compliment the Conference program.
