Do you have excellent communication and listening skills and would you love to volunteer with an organisation dedicated to beating cancer? In this role, you will be responsible for assisting visitors to the centre (based in Westmead Hospital) with information, literature and resources to support their cancer journey. This will involve directing them to appropriate support services and providing social support to cancer patients and their families. It’s an incredibly rewarding opportunity to give back to your local community and support those who are in a time of need.

This volunteer role is suitable for someone who is able to commit to one shift per week of 5 hours for 12 months. Volunteers will need to attend 2 days training session in Parramatta on Thursday 3 May 2018 (9.00am-12.00pm) and Friday 4 May 2018 (9.30am-4.30pm).

  • Demonstrated excellent communication and listening skills
  • Have a flexible approach to helping others
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about cancer support services available in the community
  • A non-judgemental attitude
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality
  • Computer skills
  • Attendance at all training and debriefing for this role, both initial and ongoing
  • Willingness to undertake a National Criminal History Record check and sign a Prohibited Employment Declaration
