St Vincent de Paul Society's SPARK is a settlement support program for newly arrived migrant, refugee and asylum seeker families. SPARK partners with primary schools, and uses volunteers and other community organisations to support the settlement of newly arrived families and create opportunities to engage with local communities.

With the help of its amazing team of volunteers the service runs after school learning clubs where children have the opportunity to build their confidence, develop and strengthen skills and enjoy positive relationships. The club’s focus is on broad learning and this is carried out through a variety of different fun and creative activities.

The program needs enthusiastic, energetic and positive volunteers who bring a sense of fun to activities. Volunteers need to be patient, approachable and sensitive to cross cultural issues and challenges. A team orientated attitude, commitment and reliability, and sound knowledge of English are expected from all volunteers.

Please consider the following for this role:

  • Are you available to attend a full day of training on a week day?
  • Can you commit for at least two school terms? Programs usually run between 6 to 8 weeks in each school term.
  • Can you travel to Fairfield, Liverpool, Guildford or Parramatta West?
  • Programs are scheduled on specific days each week, Guildford and Liverpool on Mondays, Parramatta on Tuesdays, Fairfield and Liverpool West on Thursdays.
  • Sessions are from 3:00pm to 4:30pm

As this is a child-related volunteer position, you will be required to undergo background checks, including referee checks, a National Police Check and completion of the Working with Children Check Volunteer/Student Declaration Form.
