Volunteering opportunity based in either Westmead/Bankstown/Liverpool/Blacktown or Nepean Hospital. Based in either Westmead/Bankstown/Liverpool/Blacktown or Nepean Hospital – 1 shift per week (3 - 5 hours depending on the hospital), for a minimum of one year. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting visitors to the centre (Cancer Council Information Service based in the Hospital) with information, literature and resources to support their cancer journey. This will involve directing them to appropriate support services and providing social support to cancer patients and their families. It’s an incredibly rewarding opportunity to give back to your local community and support those who are in a time of need. Cancer Council is a community-funded, community-focused cancer charity dedicated to working towards a cancer-free future. There are things that we can all do every day to help make this happen.

Basic prerequisites for starting the role:

  • Attend one training session in Parramatta run by Cancer Council on Wednesday 10th April 2019 (9:00am to 5:00pm)
  • Willing to undertake a Criminal History Check and Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Willing to undergo vaccinations for specific conditions, as per NSW Health staff policy. If not eligible for Medicare, be willing to pay for vaccination costs. Our ideal volunteer will:
  • Available to volunteer for a 3-5-hour shift on one weekday each week, for a minimum of one year.
  • Have a flexible approach to helping others and a non-judgemental attitude.
  • Be knowledgeable of or have a willingness to learn about cancer support services available in the community.
  • Have a demonstrated understanding of confidentiality. Benefits of the role for the volunteer:
