Train at Central Station

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says that work on the four new routes will begin in the next term of government, spanning from Canberra to Orange and Port Macquarie.

She says that the new rail network will help to grow businesses in regional areas, as well as encourage people to move to the areas.

The Western NSW line will run from Sydney to Orange, with stops in Bathurst and Lithgow. The government has stated that travel times will be slashed by up to 75%, meaning a trip to Orange from Sydney could take as little as one hour.

The network is based upon similar infrastructure in Europe and in Japan, where high speed rail services can travel at speeds of 350km/h. The proposed NSW network will travel at a speed of at least 200km/h.
