Face-to-face fundraising run by external organisations has delivered over $120 million to Australian charities and not-for-profits in the past year, as well as signing up over 320,000 donors. 

The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) is an organisation that collects data on fundraising activities and represents major charities in their collection of funds from public and private donors. According to the PFRA, 80% of charities outsourced their labour to external organisations.

For every $1 invested in street fundraising through labour hire and equipment costs, a charity can expect to receive a return of about $3.30.

While $120 million may seem like a significant amount of money, it is not even comparable to the $12.5 billion that Australians donate each year through other avenues, such as payment plans, sponsorships and many ad hoc activities that ultimately benefit a charity or not-for-profit. 

Fundraisers working on the streets face rejection, ignorance and even abuse just for doing their jobs. Many people who donate through this form of fundraising sign up to monthly donation plans, with 50% of those people cancelling their plans within the first year.
